The Coolest Beginner Bike to Hit Pavement - Honda Rebel 500

Many of you will remember the Rebel 250. Probably not because you owned one, but because that was the bike you learned to ride on. The one you used was old, beat up, and most likely not running optimally. But it got you through the beginner riding course just fine, unless you were one of the students that happened to crash the poor Rebel. The Rebel 250 is cheap, unattractive, and completely gutless with its 16hp engine. But, Honda decided to revive the Rebel name in a big way.

The 2017 Honda CMX500 Rebel is Honda’s attempt to revive and Rebel name. Saying the Rebel evolved isn’t doing the model justice. It is a complete redesign and rethought of what the model should be, while also sticking to the roots of what the original Rebel was good for. The Rebel is meant to be affordable and easy to ride, and the new CMX500 is that and much more. Beginner to experienced riders can appreciate the new Rebel as it is designed well in its class of motorcycle.

It still has a low seat made for anyone to be able to ride comfortably. But the styling is completely redesigned to no longer look like that cheap, first bike look that plagued the older Rebels. The styling is a bit understated but still has a sleek, street ready look. There is no gimmicky, cheap looking chrome anywhere. Most of the bike is blacked out apart from the tank and rear fender which are painted. The CMX500 carries on the cruiser design with the low seat and higher, outstretched arm/handlebar position. There are 2 engine choices. The 300cc for those that are scared of any power, and the 500cc which measures at 45 hp. It can certainly get out of its own way considering the type of bike that it is.

The CMX500 is reimagined and quite a popular design for those that want a simple, fun, and inexpensive bike for cruising around town. Hepco & Becker has taken the opportunity to support the bike by designing some of its popular luggage and protection systems and to improve the functionality and style of the Rebel. Owners now have the ability to mount side bags and even top cases to make the bike more travelable over distances. Also, the option to add a rear rack with a sissy bar allows passengers to travel more comfortably with the ability to strap a bag to the rear. Hepco and Becker engine and front guards give the rider peace of mind, knowing their investment is protected. For those that have the new Rebel, Hepco and Becker have you covered when it comes to accessories.
