The engine skid plate is designed to protect the underside of your motorcycle without compromising the design or functionality. All skid plates have their own carefully designed mounts that will ensure shocks are absorbed by the skid plate first.

disappointed

If I didn't looked 5 times at this plate and plans, I looked 20 times because I have HB crashbars, motowerks highway pegs and r&g engine covers. Spoiler: it finally all fit. But the fit is not great.

After figuring the correct longer bolts, the upper brackets were fitting well behind the frame and not interfering with crashbars. I feels solid.

Then hell broke loose. The right rear bracket won't fit unless I cut the R&G cover, but that's forgiven, they didn't plan that far. Then the plate itself is really thin and flimsy, which is the only thing that helps fitting the plate because everything started to bend to compensate for bad angles against the brackets.

To finish with a slap in the face, the oil drain plug is blocked by the rear bracket. No more socket fit, it will require a flat wrench. and the drain bolt might be too long and not unscrew completely before hitting the bracket!!! (15mm bolt must be unscrewed for about 13mm) I may have to shorten the drain bolt or add extra spacer to move the bracket away further (and bend further the plate). I will only know at the next oil change unfortunately... This is very disappointing.

It would have been a far superior design if the plate thicker OR stainless steel, much better fit, with welded nuts already on braces instead of fiddling with tiny m6 nyloc bolts and nuts and 3 washers at every tie point. I may have to get rid of the allen key bolt and put real M6 hex bolt, or at least try inserting bolts from the inside to make mounting a bit easier (gravity holding bolts in brackets) and nuts outside.

As for the drain plug obstruction, it looks like the gap in the bracket could have been made larger to clear a good 25mm round hole to reach and remove the drain plug with most socket.

Hi Danny, Thank you for the feedback. The skid plate is designed to work with the stock bike, aftermarket items are rarely taken into consideration since it is impossible to predict what will be installed on the bike and from where. I understand your concern about access to the oil filter and agree that it would be a lot more ideal to have direct access. However, there are only a few allen head bolts that need removing taking less than 5 minutes to provide access to that drain plug. Thank you again for the order and hope that you are able to overlook the minor troubles here now having peace of mind that you have some stout protection on your bike!
