Gobi is the answer to all your adventuring needs. These top cases have an impressive 42-liter interior! The weight resistance is an impressive 100kg. Manufactured from impact resistant, through-colored plastic, the Gobi is extremely resilient, waterproof and absorbs impacts and scuffs without trouble. It unites the looks of an aluminum case with all advantages of a plastic case. The outside and internal luggage walls are honeycombed together enhancing the strength of the case. The smooth inner surfaces make it possible to store your gear without worry of damage. The Gobi is in the true sense of the word a “top-loader” with sturdy metal locks so that your belongings don’t fall out when opening, a hinge from chain fabric, and a metal carrying handle.

Strap loops and water taps are an additional option allowing you to get the most out of your adventure.Gobi bags come in three styles being Alu Optic which is a silver color, Black which is all black and the Black Edition which has silver inlays and includes strap loops for strapping additional items on top at no additional cost. These straps are also available as an optional extra for customers to install themselves on the Alu Optic and Black versions. As with all Hepco & Becker top cases, a backrest is available for the comfort of your passenger. Inner bags are available for all of the Gobis that allow you to easily put or take your belongings in or out.

Unique to Gobi is the ability to use the side cases as water carriers. This is made possible by the double wall construction. This storage volume is accessed by an optional tap, which can be easily installed by the customer. Please note that Gobi top cases do not have the ability for the additional water tap, only the side cases.

Customers praised this durable, well-built top case for its secure mounting, good looks, and ample storage. The case is "waterproof" and handles off-road use well. However, some noted it "doesn't easily fit a full face helmet" without flexing, and locks can be fragile when dropped.

Customer Service: A+, Box: B

Customer Service: absolutely excellent. Email communications were straight up and courteous. I had to return the box and there were 0 issues with the return authorization and refund. Very happy with this and will continue to shop here when I need something.

The Box: well built, good looks, but it still doesn't easily fit a full face helmet - in fact the fit is just like a Junior 40 (which I have): it'll fit but the plastic has to flex. With just a little more height (1 cm?), these boxes could fit a full face without sacrificing the design characteristics or "aspect ratio", to mis-appropriate that term. It's a mystery why Hepco & Becker hasn't figured this out.

Excellent Case

This attached to my Hepco and Becker rack in seconds. I love the locks, the look, and the internal space provided. This is my first case from Hepco and Becker and will gladly consider them for my next purchase.

Pros and Cons

Have 10k miles on my Gobi top case. Pros, looks for my bike great. Durability very good. Interior space good enough. Can carry a lot without it being huge. My klim TK1200 helmet full face will fit when placed on its side, and can get some other stuff in it with helmet. The handles are good for tying on too. Waterproof mostly. Have bounced it around off road with no issues. The easy rack has proved to be an excellent mount for my bike (Ducati 950 MTS). My wife likes it for two up ridding we have done trips 12 days long on the bike two up with speeds well above 100mph - 125mph and its solid.
Cons > the locks can be sloppy and can break when dropped on a hard surface such as asphalt. Replacement lock was easy enough but not perfect once installed (a little sloppy following the rivet system provided by HB) I ended up bolting it back on.
Other than that it is an excellent value at this price when looking at other options. Yes it is older model but still looks very good.
Very happy and would recommend. And Moto Machines has great service.

Great Service Great case

I spoke to Andrew several times before ordering this Gobi Top case for my Ducati MTS950. Ordered it online it shipped next day, arrived the day after. Excellent service.
I had some concerns which where handled well by Andrew & Motomachines. The case is great for my needs, looks great on the bike, better, the mounting hardware looks better then others when the case is not on the bike which was a big concern for me. Would Highly recommend Motomachines and the Gobi top case.

German Engineered?

I have a 1995 Yamaha XT600E. I purchased the Gobi top case from Moto Machines about 8 months ago. Last week I attempted to latch shut the right latch and it fell apart (portion in my hand, portion fell to the ground). After carful inspection there I discovered a small/thin piece of metal press fitted to the main latch (portion with lock, back side) had become separated. This little piece allows the locking portion to hinge. I've attempted to "re-press" into position (no luck) and superglue in place (no luck). The Achilles heel of this latch is a press fitted/thin piece of metal! I expected a little more from "German Engineering". I guess it is really no better than "Chinese Engineering". I'm sure I'll find a work around but definitely expected more for $300.

Exactly as I expected

The topcase is exactly as I expected; very durable, easy to mount, does not rattle, and looks good on my old airhead GS. Shipping was fast and communication was great.

Hepco and Becker Top Case (GOBI)

This is my second GOBI top case. The first one was sold with the KTM 990. This is fitted on my new KTM 1190 R. The case is well built, mounts securely and locks securely. I plan on purchasing the GOBI black edition side cases and highly recommend this product. Some nice things about it is that you can order replacement parts, locks, the mounting trapizoid, back rest, etc.... The case it self will not break but I did replace the lock after a crash on my 990. All that said, great product and highly recommended. Also Motomachine staff are always very helpful and have helped me out with matching lock cylinders, advice and their honest opinion on products.
