A New One By BMW, The Smallest One Yet

BMW has plunged into a market where they have never been before, despite their deep roots in manufacturing motorcycles. The new G 310 R is the first budget oriented, entry level motorcycle they have ever released. Their goal was to create an affordable bike that still looked and felt like a BMW. The designers did their best to carry the trusted BMW quality throughout the design of the G 310 R.

Since the release in 2016, the G 310 R has been reviewed positively for it successfully intruding into the entry level motorcycle market. Starting at $4,750 the G 310 R falls right within pricing for other entry level motorcycles, despite being maybe a little underpowered in comparison. The 313 cc single cylinder engine boasts a respectful 34hp, which is decent for the displacement. The engine may be small, but the weight makes up for it at 350 lb, fueled and ready to ride. The power-weight ratio enables the bike to hold its own on the road without the rider feeling vulnerable or underpowered. The engine’s peak power is at 9,500 rpm which means you’ll be revving it out much of the time. Not that that is an issue, because using the whole rev range is fun. The BMW G 310 R is the first of its type within the brand’s history.

But, what was the cost that BMW had to pay to manufacture a motorcycle at the price range of under 5k. Well, they had to move manufacturing which is painful for many enthusiasts to hear. The G 310 R along with the other “G” bikes, are manufactured in Brazil and India. BMW has ensured that the same quality standards are being used. It’s hard to argue with the decision as it has allowed BMW to expand their market potential drastically. This is all apart of their goal to almost double sales by 2020 with 200k sold per year. Hepco and Becker has always been a popular accessories brand with BMW riders. Seeing the potential of the new 310 R, Hepco and Becker designed all of its main products and systems to fit the 310 R. The C-bow carrier along with rear racks are offered for those who want the option to fit cases to the bike to gain functionality. Also engine, rear and front guards are available to protect the rider’s investment.
